Here's a neat buck that Dave Clausen took this year.
Dave writes, "This is my 6x5 mule deer/blacktail cross. This buck was harvested in Northern California in Zone X-4 near Eagle Lake. Elevation 5,800 ft. It was noon on opening day. After seeing many deer in the morning, I was hiking down an old logging road. Above the old road was a very well used deer trail. As my eyes looked up the trail there stood a very large deer. After seeing the bases of the antlers, I could see the large eye guards. Uphill at 100 yards I squeezed the trigger of the Winchester model 70 featherweight 30-06. The buck spun and took off to the right. I waited about half an hour until I walked up the hill. Great blood trail. Followed it for about 30 yards and there was my trophy. It was a monster in my book. The buck weighed 240 lbs. live weight. It was the first deer I have harvested since the passing of my father who had shared his love of the outdoors and hunting. He was watching over me this day!!"
