"Mike's Trophy Washington Muley"
Photo provided by: Mike Shawver

Mike Shawver writes, "This is a muley I harvested on the east side of Stevens Pass in Washington State on 10-23-2004. It was the opening weekend of the season and my hunting partner, Keith, and I were having a hard time seeing any deer. We had been across the valley from where I took this deer the previous weekend and jumped a few deer in the thick brush, but never saw any of them. We looked across the valley and decided the next weekend we would try hunting there as it looked a little more open.

The following weekend was cold and it had snowed at about 3000 ft. We were going to start our hunting at about 2500 ft. and figured we might have some luck if we got up to the snow. We started up an old logging road at daylight and hiked for about 20 minutes before we came to an old clearcut. From the bottom of the clearcut the road was really overgrown with brush and we were having a hard time keeping quiet. We went thru some really thick stuff into an opening about 3/4 of the way around the clearcut and I looked up to see this buck standing on the hillside looking at us from about 100 ft. I said to my buddy "stop" and I quickly slipped my scope covers off and flipped the safety to fire.

I took aim and the rest is as they say "history". I am very thankful to have had the chance to take an animal like this as you don't see too many Muleys like this in the Cascades of Washington."
