Lee writes, "Though the picture's might give a different perception, The Suina Family Success happened on the Cochiti Indian Reservation in northern New Mexico. Our reservation is chalked full of elk and deer. We are lucky that we can hunt these areas.

I'd like to submit the attached photos of one of the Reservation Legends. This big guy was deemed a monster back in about 1995 or 1996 when he was seen quite often by the rangers for the Pueblo. They named him "ROY". Then, in 1999, our natural resource department was able to catch him and add him to an elk and deer study where migration patterns are monitored because of our proximity to Los Alamos National Labs.

We were able to watch this guy for seven years, and he gave us a new respect for the Reservation Muleys.

On December 19, 2006, while making routine observations, one of our technicians picked up a mortality sensor on Roy, and we were able to salvage his magnificent rack. We were also able to salvage jaw bones and determine he died of old age, not common to mule deer as you know. But to think this guy produced the rack he did with what little teeth he had, and what little he could eat is amazing. His genes run freely and thanks to Jude, we were able to get a cape of one of his offspring and have him forever preserved.
