"Dave's First Archery Bull Elk"
Photo provided by: Dave Davis

Dave Davis writes, "Although this does not look much like elk country....I shot this 5x5 satelitte bull from 35 yards. This bull was 1 of 4 satelite bulls attempting to sneek cows from a herd of 100 elk. There was no need to call this bull in since the elk were in the middle of the rut and occupied with the typical rutting activities. We were able to get in front of the elk as they slowly worked our way. This bull was head down chasing 8 cows that seperated from the herd as I came to full draw. I had to cow call with my mouth to stop the bull for a clean shot. The bull had no idea he was hit and slowly walked back to the main herd, eventually going down 50 yards from where he was arrowed.

Murphy's law would have it that the following day after filling my tag, I was able to get within 15 yards of the herd bull (about a 340 class bull) as I attempted to push the elk into the remaining hunters with tags.

But you won't see me complain, I'm proud of my first bull espcially under the hot and very dry elk season 2008 provided."
