Kyle McCarthy writes, "Myself and my wife, Jenny, drew very coveted Colorado eastern plains late season rifle tags for whitetail in unit 103. We arrived three days prior to the season to scout the area. My son, Rhett, and duaghter, Rylea, were along for the ride. The kids had a blast shooting cottontails all weekend, but opening day came and it was nothing but deer on the whole family's mind. We saw five shooter bucks on Saturday and Sunday prior to the opening day. So opening day arrived and of course nothing went as planned. The hunter messed the whole plan up. Monday and Tuesday were very frustrating. Thursday came and it was our last planned day of hunting, but we stuck to the plan and hunted the same area and low and behold this 145-5/8 B&C buck showed up with 8 does and the 270 hit its mark and put him down. I am so happy that my wife and kids were there to share the experience with me...shooting my biggest whitetail ever.
