"Jason's Deep-Forked Idaho Trophy Buck"

Jason Rindlesbach (aka BIGOLMULEY) has taken a number of fantastic bucks, and here's another he downed in Idaho. He shared his adventure in the forum....

"My 2018 Idaho Buck - So I passed on bucks last year and went home without. Really wanted to get a deer this year. Since my accident I figure I should not be so picky. But I am, and that’s fine by me. But reeeaallly wanted to get one this year.
Scouting was rough. So dry. Didn’t hardly see a deer until August. I found the buck I passed on a bunch last year and he was bigger and definitely a shooter. Unfortunately he was living on some private I did not have permission to hunt. But found a good buck worth hunting. Got him on camera a few times.

So I knew he was around. The first 4 days of the season I didn’t see anything worth shooting. Well I did see the one I had passed the year before, but he was again on ground I couldn’t hunt.
Finally Friday night I spotted my buck coming out of a bottom with about 45 minutes of light left. I hustled down there being about 1200 yards away. Just couldn’t get there in time. I didn’t fall, but still really hard for me to move like I needed to.
Anyway, next morning I had him again feeding up a draw within range. I was getting my gun set up on the tripod and he bedded in the tall sage about 450 yards away. I sat waiting for 2 1/2 hours. It was windy and cold. I have little circulation anymore on my right side and my foot especially felt like a block of ice. I decided I couldn’t sit there any longer and started packing up. I opened my bolt to extract the bullet and as I did the bullet separated from the case and was stuck up in the barrel a bit. Powder went everywhere. Bother. Oh well I thought. I will get back and pop it out with my cleaning rod. Put everything away and of course take one more look at where the buck is and he is up feeding at 450. Awesome. Well I figured it wasn’t meant to be that day.
I left and came back 3 days later. In the next 4 days I had 3 more encounters with him. I just couldn’t get it done. I am so slow....but just kept trying. Getting frustrated as I know he’d be dead if I was not dragging half my body around. But I ain’t dead and still hunting so it’s all good.
Returned home for church then back up Sunday night. I had 3 days to get it done. Monday morning I saw him right off at 750 but he was moving and that was that. Tuesday my good friend Headbones went with me. Raining but we still saw a bunch but not him.
Wednesday was the last day of the season. I figured I would sneak in super early and set up where I might be in range. Figuring he might show up where I saw him before. About 30 minutes after light I picked him up. He disappeared in the sage but the direction he was headed he should come back into view. And he did at 498. I was a bit nervous. This would be my longest shot shooting left handed and left eye. But I knew the gun could do it if I could just stay calm. I wished I had a spotter. I shot when he cleared the sage and stopped I heard a hit, but wasn’t sure. I didn’t bother trying to load another round. It takes me like 20 seconds to do it with one hand so I just grabbed my binos. There were deer running everywhere. I gave him 20 minutes glassing. Then hiked down. I got down and ranged back to where I shot from, 462. So I went another 40 yards or so and ranged again 498. I looked to my left and there he was not 10’ away. Sweet
I drilled him.

I even pretty much cleaned him myself. I had a friend hold the nuts tight while I cut and hold a leg. I was pretty proud of that. I have a traumatic brain injury. I am paralyzed on most of the right side of my body. But I was given a second chance at life, and I am living it.
I thought a bunch of my friend Yelum on this hunt when I was feeling a little down. Knowing he’d be out there if he could.
Don’t ever let something that is difficult stop you from doing what you love. It may be hard, you may fail and feel bad. But in the end the feeling of not letting that difficult thing defeat you is awesome!"
