Rick Oubre writes, "Jules Oubre and I spotted this B&C goat the evening before the New Mexico season opened. I saw him 1st chasing a younger buck away from the ladies below the cap rock leaving trails of dust at 50 mph. This gave me 1st shot options which I would take. I did not sleep much that night. This antelope had every thing I was looking for in mass and long cutters.
Hunting with great friends on the high desert ranch we found the herd a half a mile from the evening before. The big buck was fighting off all suiters protecting his girlfriends when we got into range. My weapon of choice is always a 50 year old Weatherby FN Mauser in .257 Magnum. Tuned up with 120 grain Sierra HPBT's. It will drop most critter's on there nose on impact.
We finally got between the buck and the herd and I took the shot inside of 200 yards. The rifle cracked sharply and a familiar "Ka-Wop" of the bullet connecting made us smile. He's a trophy in my book. We green scored him unoffically around 81 B&C---he could go higher. I love chasing these antelope and enjoying the majestic country they roam. Hope all have a safe and enjoyable season as we have had! My brother collected his trophy that evening and it is another great goat."
