Archery Elk Hunting

(July 1999)

Well, we've probably all been practicing our bugling over the last few months, if not then it's time. If you don't bugle for bulls then your missing out. Having a big bull answer your call is a great accomplishment, then you get to bring him close. Bugling is probably the best way to get a good shot at a big bull elk. Although, in Utah it seems that just drawing a tag is the real challenge. I don't know of many open bull areas in Utah where a guy has a good chance of seeing a big bull, well maybe some of the private property. If your lucky enough to have drawn an archery bull elk permit then good luck, most of the limited entry units contain many big bulls, so the bugling should be lots of fun. If you don't bugle, then look around the water holes and creeks, elk love the water and the lush green grass that grows around it.
