Cody Axlund writes, "This year I was fortunate to draw one of two tags in the state of South Dakota for the Custer State Park any deer season. I first saw this buck in the evening and after stalking it for about two hours, I finally had a chance at him, but when I got down in the prone position, I put my hand along with all my weight square on a cactus about the size of a golf ball. Well, the deer saw me and spooked over the hill and shooting time had ended. I thought my chances were done with this trophy. The next morning I returned to the same area and didn't see him until I snuck to the other side of the mountain and there he was chasing does in the valley below. I once again snuck around to about 100 yards of him and finally got a shot. It dropped him in his tracks and I finally bagged the 5x4. His inside spread was 27-1/2 and outside was almost 30 inches. We appropriately named him the "cactus buck"."
