Don writes, "Here's a buck we saw opening day and the following weekend. We thought he was 2-4 inches bigger, but still a great buck in my book. Opening day was lousy as Wyoming's weather can be, rained and snowed for several days. We decided to come back one week later.
Weather on Saturday morning the 23rd was ideal. We saw no deer whatsoever the night before in our favorite basin, but we decided to go into the basin anyway, which turned out perfect. On the hike up, we saw him and 3 others moving from one patch of pines to the next, so we knew what we had to do.
We hiked up, got to our vantage point and waited. We didn't have to wait long, as 3 guys walked down the saddle and jumped the 2 other nice bucks we had been watching. These 2 bucks ran right up to where my buck was, which eventually got them moving from there beds. It was easy to know which buck to shoot, as he was by far the biggest. The shots were around 450 yards. After the 3rd shot, he was down for good. 30 minutes earlier, my brother and his brother-in-law had shot a nice 3 point. So, it was a great day in Wyoming."
