First one is my Utah O.I.L. Moose hunt. I've been putting in for 15 years, and I finally drew out this year. It was truly a hunt of a lifetime (Utah or any other state...) and I'm sure the memory of this hunt will last a lifetime. I had some great friends up on the mountain with me to share in the experience of hunting Shiras Moose in Utah. I ended up taking this bull on the second day (evening) of the hunt after having some buddies locate it the evening before (opening day), but I wasn't able to close the deal that evening and spent the rest of the next day trying to locating it. With about 30 minutes of daylight left and about a 1000 yards away, the push was on to bring this hunt to an end.
I passed on several other smaller bulls on the opening day, but I knew the unit held better bulls and elected to pass on them and I'm really glad I did. I haven't put the final number together, but I'm guessing it will score in the 130-140 class B&C.
Second is a hunt I just got back from in Wyoming...hunting antelope. I had a great time and was able to share this hunt with my wife, as she was able to come along and enjoy it with me. I only had one day to hunt as time was in short supply. We spent most of the morning looking for a buck I had seen right at first light that had a very un-usual (deformed) prong. After several attempts to close the deal on that buck, we moved on to another buck we had spotted and after several hours of working to close the distance, I connected with the buck and the hunt was over. I haven't put any measurements on the buck yet, except that the horns are 14".
This was a great year for me and it's only 1/2 over, as I still have a southern Utah deer hunt and a late season elk hunt to go. I thought I'd share a couple of my hunts with you.
