"Dane's Big Idaho Mule Deer"
Photo provided by: Dane Powers

Dane Powers writes, "After 3 years of putting in for the 11A mule deer tag in Idaho, I finally pulled it on the second chance drawing. The first day I went out scouting I spotted this buck feeding in a bluegrass field above a deep nasty draw. For the next month, I patterned him and figured out right where I needed to be sitting on opening morning. October 10th finally came and I was in my spot well before daylight. At about 6:00am, a group of mule deer ran down the hill from behind me and ran up the draw, but it was too dark to see so I figured I probable wouldn't see him that morning. About a half hour later, I decided to reposition so I could glass up the draw where the deer had went and instantly spotted this buck. I glassed him for a minute to make sure he was the one I had been watching all summer and after confirmation, I squeezed off a 200 yard shot dropping him in his tracks. Finally, I had killed my first mule deer."
