"Brian's Bull Elk"
Photo provided by: Brian Heidbrink

Brian writes, "I harvested this 4x3 bull in SW Colorado on Sept. 4, 2001. At noon on this day I called in a 6x6 herd bull. The bull stopped 30 yards away and rubbed his antlers on a tree for an hour but I could not get a shot due to the thick vegetation, and I couldn't move to get a better angle. The bull would bugle back to my calls but wouldn't leave his rubbing tree. He finally walked off and I decided to leave him and return later that afternoon to try him again. By the time I returned that evening, he was already above treeline and was bugling and chasing cows. I got to within 60 yards of the herd but this satellite bull prevented me from getting any closer or calling to the herd bull. As final shooting light began to fade, the satellite bull presented me a perfect broadside shot at 35 yards".
