We heard this bull bugle at around 5:30pm and started calling back and closing the distance. After about thirty minutes, we were within 100 yards of the bull when my other hunting buddy spotted the bull through the thick timber, he decided to take a shot and missed, hitting a 10" thick aspen. The elk looked around and that's when I saw the sun shine off his antlers. I had a small window to shoot through and could only see the bulls neck and head, so I aimed for the base of his neck and shoulder and the rest is history as they say. He is not the biggest bull, but having my son there to be part of the hunt and pack out was a great experience. He made the 5 mile hike in and out twice without much complaining at all, what at trooper!"
