"Colorado Gobbler for Josh"
Photo provided by: Josh

Josh writes, "My first turkey taken in Colorado last weekend. The bird was hung up after calling about an hour and would not come in any closer, partly in due to the fact that there was a fence that divided me and the tom and a hen that we could here near by. I decided that I should get as close as I could without alarming the birds. I crossed the fence and changed my slate call to a mouth reed call and inched my way toward the tom giving soft clucks and purrs as I got closer and closer. The tom answered almost every call I gave him with a loud gobble. After about 10 minutes, the gobbles seized and I began to here the exilerating sound of the bird drumming and spitting as it closed the distance between us. I knew then that the bird had fallen for my calling and soon would get the opportunity I was waiting for. With my gun aimed where I thought he might come through some oak brush, he showed himself and I pulled the trigger as soon as I saw head pop up as it was looking for the hen he had heard. The rest is history."
