"75-Inch Nevada 'Lope for Chris"
Photo provided by: Corey Fanti

Corey Fanti writes, "Chris Nardini of Reno bagged this nice NV speedster on the opening day of the 2006 rifle season. This was his first NV tag and he connected.

After seeing this buck on the day before the opener, he decided this was the buck he would pursue. This buck had a harem of 19 does and after scouting the area, he was the only buck in a 5 mile radius.

Opening morning came and the hunt was on. At about 8:00, Chris finally spotted a few does on top of a saddle across from the ridge he was on. After glassing for about 20 minutes, all 19 does appeared on the saddle. Finally, Mr. Big showed himself. Chris patiently waited and glassed the herd for about an hour. When the herd bedded down, Chris made his move to stalk within range of the solo buck. Closing the distance from 800 yards to 400, the herd slowly began to rise, one at a time, and began feeding towards him. When the buck finally got up, Chris readied himself for the long poke. Then, for some unknown reason, the buck began rounding up his harem and heading back up to the saddle from where they came. Chris waited for them to disappear out of sight and started plan “B”.

Chris then headed out across the draw and got in front of the herd. Slowly he stalked over one rise, and then the next, until finally, BUSTED! He had 19 sets of eyeballs fixed on his every move. The herd bolted and disappeared around a rock bluff. Time to start plan “C”.

After taking an early afternoon nap and cooling off the sore dogs, Chris headed back up the ridge. This time he had to attack it from behind due to the shifting winds. Plan “C” was working. The antelope weren’t up on the very top of the mesa; they were in the small depressions on the east side of the ridge. Chris slowly began his stalk again, peeking over one rise at a time. MONEY! The second rise he hit was holding the nice Nevada goat at only about 100 yards. The buck stared Chris down and then put his head down and started moving into a depression. Wondering if he should stalk closer or go back up and around, Chris spotted something out of the corner of his eye. It was his buck, and he had closed the gap to 75 yards. Chris steadied his Sako Tikka .270 and touched the round off. The buck dropped where he stood. Plan “C” hit pay dirt.

Chris’s NV goat scored 75 3/8 gross. 16” horns, 6 2/8 bases and 4 7/8 prongs. Chris was being guided on this hunt with his friend, Corey Fanti of Reno."
