While hunting the Crow Indian Reservation, Clayvin Herrera was able to connected on this cool cheater buck.
Clayvin writes, "This is an 8x6 buck taken Labor Day weekend on the Crow Indian Reservation in Montana. It was taken in an area known as Goodluck Creek and on this day I think I had some good luck. You can't see it, but there is a kicker on the left side going straight back making it 8 points, you can only see 7 in the picture. The width measured approximately 31 inches. Im 6'5" and approximately 280 lbs. I usually make deer look small in photos, but this one makes me look small!
I was hunting with my buddy, Raven, walking along some drainages. It was approximately 85 degrees out and Raven stated that it was too hot and there was more than likely no deer out. I told him that we were doing the right thing walking along the edges and checking the shaded areas. We hunted all morning with no luck. It was approximately one in the afternoon and I was starting to doubt that we would see anything.
I looked up on the ridge and seen this monster standing there. I thought it was a tree at first and then I thought it was an elk. I seen he had a smaller buddy and I definitely knew he was a monster buck. I got to about 300 yards from him and dropped him. He was on a high flat, nowhere near any coulees, but of course he picked the steepest coulee, went to the bottom and died. We had a hell of a time getting him out of there. It was a good hunt though."
