Amy West writes, "I have hunted many years in Eastern Oregon where I grew up, but hadn’t gotten the chance to go out as much as I would have liked. So this year, 2011, when I drew a deer tag I wanted to be sure to fill it for the first time. I went out opening weekend and saw several bucks, but they were all on the run and I didn’t feel confident I could take a shot like that so I kept passing them up. I started to think maybe I wasn’t going to get that perfect shot I was looking for. I continued to go out every chance I could and finally the last weekend of the season we drove out and saw him within 70 yards. I didn’t expect to have a buck this big be my first and I was really nervous that I would screw it up. My cousin was with me and kept me calm while I aimed and took my shot. It was amazing and as we approached the buck I realized how big he really was! I am told over and over again by many people that I will never get another buck like this in my lifetime, but I am going to keep trying."
